Teaching Styles

It can be hard to individualize the curriculum, so that the student is learning in a way that helps them succeed. But this is where Mrs. Cunningham exceeds. Whether she was singing to her class or telling a joke, she always made sure that they got the knowledge they needed. She would make the seating chart based on what the kids knew, so at one table there would be someone who was better at math, and one who was better at reading at a table so that they would all have to work together. She could not tell me which subject she would teach if she could only do one, she liked them all so much. She was a much laid back caring teacher, which is what you need when you are dealing with little kids. She says" you have to be silly with little kids because if they like you they will listen to you. I always tell jokes and sing a little it helps both me and the kids relaxed". She tried to do as much hands-on projects as she could.

Mrs. Cunningham has been teaching for almost 40 years, you can’t teach for that long unless you’re prepared. I asked her if someone wanted to become a teacher what should they know or some qualities they should have. She said" You have to be ready to work long hours, whether your grading papers, or making plans for the week you will be there awhile. The number 1 quality you can have as a teacher is patience, little kids know how to push your buttons and you can just yell at them you have to bite your tongue". Mrs. Cunningham loved to teach she loved everything about it except for the standard tests. They always frustrated her; there were times when she thought she wasn’t even teaching, but only training them for a test.
